How a Router Works
The image beautifully illustrates a router's function as a digital traffic controller.
Incoming Data: Data from the internet (e.g., a website you're visiting) comes into the router. This data is in small pieces called packets.
Routing Decision: The router inspects each packet's destination address.
Forwarding: Based on the address, the router decides where to send the packet.
Local Network (LAN): If the packet is meant for a device connected by a cable (like the desktop computers in the image), it routes the data to that specific device.
Wi-Fi Devices: If the packet is for a wireless device (like the laptops and phone), the router broadcasts it as a Wi-Fi signal.
In essence, the router's internal routing table acts like a map, ensuring all incoming data packets get to the correct device on your network, whether it's wired or wireless.
