Guru Ram Das, the 4th Sikh Guru, was born on October 24, 1534. He became the Guru in 1574 and is credited with founding the city of Amritsar in Punjab, India. He initiated the construction of the Harmandir Sahib, later known as the Golden Temple, in 1581, which became the holiest shrine in Sikhism. The purpose of building the Golden Temple was to create a central place for all to seek spiritual guidance, promote equality, and bring together people from different backgrounds and religions. The temple is also a symbol of unity, selfless service, and devotion to God. Guru Ram Das's leadership focused on community welfare, and he composed many hymns which are now part of the Sikh holy scriptures, the Guru Granth Sahib.
