A battery is only one part of the BMS challenge.

Reliable BMS development requires engineers to connect battery physics, thermal behaviour, controls, embedded software and safety—and validate how these elements interact under real operating conditions.

So, where does CADFEM fit?

🔹 Understand the Battery
Simulate electrochemical, electrical and thermal behaviour to understand how the battery responds across operating conditions.

🔹 Engineer the BMS
Connect battery behaviour with controls, protection strategies, embedded software and functional safety considerations.

🔹 Validate the System
Evaluate battery–BMS interaction, operating scenarios and fault conditions before physical testing.

🔹 Optimise & De-Risk
Use simulation-driven workflows to identify design challenges earlier, improve engineering decisions and reduce development iterations.

The goal is not to simulate the battery in isolation.

It is to connect battery physics with BMS intelligence—from understanding how the battery behaves to validating how the BMS responds.

From Battery Physics to BMS Confidence.
That is where simulation-driven engineering makes a difference.

At our recent Executive Roundtable, “AI Natives vs AI Adopters: Asymmetric Competition and the Leadership Imperative in Deeptech,” in Pune on 30th Sept business and technology leaders came together to explore how AI is reshaping engineering, innovation and competitive advantage across deeptech.

A few perspectives stood out from the discussion:

🔹 AI is becoming part of existing workflows, from engineering and operations to business decision-making, rather than simply replacing them.

🔹 AI alone is not the differentiator. Sustainable advantage comes from combining AI with domain expertise, engineering data, physics-based simulation and contextual intelligence.

🔹 For engineering-intensive industries, trust matters. Connecting AI with first principles, simulation, validation and real-world data is essential for reliable engineering decisions.

🔹 The opportunity lies in creating a continuous loop:
Data → Knowledge → Simulation → AI → Engineering Decisions → Real-World Feedback

🔹 AI transformation goes beyond technology. It requires the right data infrastructure, computing, simulation capabilities, talent, governance and organisational readiness.

And perhaps the most important takeaway:

We are all AI adopters and that is the starting point.

The leadership imperative is to move beyond adopting AI as a tool and begin embedding it into how we think, engineer, innovate and compete.

Thank you to all the leaders who joined us in Pune and contributed their perspectives to this important conversation.

From AI adoption to AI-augmented engineering. The transformation is already underway.

HOW HEALTHY IS YOUR BATTERY—REALLY?

A battery can appear to operate normally while its internal characteristics are already changing.

With every charge-discharge cycle, battery performance is influenced by temperature, load profile, cycling conditions and ageing mechanisms. These changes affect available capacity, internal resistance, power capability and ultimately the accuracy of Battery Management System (BMS) decisions.

This makes State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) more than simple battery indicators.

🔹 SoC — How much usable energy is currently available?
🔹 SoH — How has the battery's capacity and performance changed over its lifecycle?
🔹 Ageing — How are degradation mechanisms changing battery behaviour over time?

For a reliable BMS, these parameters need to be understood in the context of the battery's actual electrochemical and thermal behaviour.

Simulation can help engineering teams evaluate battery response across different operating conditions, ageing states and thermal environments, enabling more informed SoC/SoH estimation, degradation assessment and BMS strategy development.

The engineering objective is not simply to monitor the battery.

It is to understand how the battery changes—and enable the BMS to respond accordingly.

Know your battery. Predict its behaviour. Optimise its life.
