Linux: Myths and Truths

Myth 1: Installing Linux is not easy.
Fact: Installing Linux is made easy in recent years. You don't need to type any command or magical phrase to install Linux on your box. SUSE, Fedora and Ubuntu distros can be installed within 30 minutes along with applications that are bundled with them on disc.
** You may try Linux without installing with Live-CD. You can boot your system with Live CD without disturbing the operating system installed on your hard disk. You can also install it on to a flash drive. On Windows, you could install Ubuntu into a directory without creating a separate partition for Linux operating system.
Myth 2: Linux is not user-friendly. You need to learn lot of commands.
Fact: A regular user don't need to learn commands as there is a GUI(graphical interface). On Linux you can install different Desktop Environments like GNOME, KDE, Xfce, LXDE and many more. Each Desktop Environment gives a different look and feel. You can do almost everything with mouse clicks.
Myth 3: Installing software is difficult.
Fact: Installing software is easy for two reasons.
One, many applications are bundled with operating system CD/DVD, like OpenOffice(contains, word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and few other), GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program for working with images), media players, internet utilities and many more.
Two, there is an option to downlaod and install softwares with single click or command from repositories without the need to search for the application.
Myth 4: Linux doesn't come pre-installed on computers.
Fact: Vendors like Dell and Lenova ship their systems with Linux pre-installed.
Myth 5: No support for Linux. It's difficult to fix the issues.
Fact: One, you can buy the support from a vendor. Or you can consult a Linux technician. Two, you may get help from communities for free. All you have to do is visit communities, search and find the solution to fix the issue(s).
Myth 6: Linux doesn't have support for all Hardware.
Fact: Linux can support upto 90% of hardware. No other operating system can support up to 90%.
Myth 7: Difficult to learn Linux.
Fact: If one could spend 15 days to learn Linux, then he/she can do all user level task easily.
