NEW DELHI: Within a fortnight of launching the Galaxy Duos 2, Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Grand 2 phablet in the Indian market. It is the successor to the Galaxy Grand that was launched earlier this year and was a big hit in the country. This phablet has a larger screen, more RAM and bigger battery than its predecessor.

Though the company has not announced the price of the device, it has said that it will be priced under Rs 25,000; media reports suggest that it will cost between Rs 19,000 and 21,000. It will hit the markets in January.

The all-new Galaxy Grand 2 has a 5.25-inch HD screen and 1.2GHz quad-core processor. It comes with 8GB internal storage, up to 64GB microSD card support and 1.5GB RAM. On the back, it has an 8MP camera with LED flash and sports a 1.9MP camera in front.

Connectivity suite of Galaxy Grand 2 includes 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0. It is powered by a 2,600mAh battery and the company claims that it can provide talk time of 17 hours. The phone will be available in white, black and pink colours in the market.

Samsung Rex 60 is a dual sim offering from the new Rex series of feature phones from Samsung. Samsung has launched the Rex series to compete with Nokia's Asha series. The Rex 60 is a cute little offering with a 2.8" LCD TFT capacitive touch screen. The phone has a curved appearance reminiscent of the Samsung Champ Duos feature phone. Samsung recently unwrapped its latest phone in the Indian market - Galaxy Grand Duos, a phablet with a reasonable price tag. The new smartphone has dual-sim capability with high-end smartphone features, latest version of Android OS and some apps found only in Samsung's top-end devices. However, the all-new Galaxy Grand Duos also lacks a few features which may negatively impact many prospective buyers purchase decision.

The Note is back, bigger and better

It hasn’t even been a year since the original Samsung Galaxy Note launched. It was a work of genius for old Samsung. Many (including us, we admit) were not convinced. Who on earth would want something so big to make their calls and surf the internet, even with a glorified stylus?

Cue awkward silence.

Millions of you, it would appear. The Samsung Galaxy Note has sold by the bucket-load. And while it is most definitely a niche device, it’s done wonders for Samsung’s balance sheet. How do you follow that up? With something better, of course – the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.



If you’ve ever fondled or caressed the original Samsung Galaxy Note and found its larger size too much to handle, we’ll break this to you with a sledgehammer – the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is bigger.

It’s now 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4mm (5.9 x 3.2 x 0.4 inches), so slightly up from 146.9 x 83 x 9.7mm (5.8 x 3.3 x 0.4 inches). That said, we didn’t find it cumbersome at all.



In the way the original Samsung Galaxy Note followed the Samsung Galaxy S2′s square design, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 follows the more rounded rectangular look.

And what a beauty it is. It actually felt slightly smaller to us in day-to-day use – but that may be down to the fact that we have gravedigger hands.



The Samsung Galaxy Note had a frankly amazing screen as it was, so would have taken some beating. But Samsung clearly likes a challenge. The size has gone up slightly from 5.3 inches to 5.5. And although pixel density is reduced, we didn’t notice it.

This is the bright, vivid Samsung Super AMOLED panel that we all know and love – and what a beauty it is, replicating colours amazingly and immaculately.
