ISRAEL: 6000 INDIAN WORKERS TO ISRAEL!
Labour shortage plagues war-torn Israel. This invites workers from abroad. The local government has announced that a large number of workers will arrive there from India in April and May.
Due to clashes with Hamas, the construction sector of Israel (Israel Hamas conflict) is suffering from labour shortage. This invites workers from abroad. As part of that, 6000 people from India will reach there. Special flights will be arranged in April and May to transport them. Israel's Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Construction have jointly decided to subsidize travel expenses. To this extent, an official statement was issued from the Israeli government on Wednesday night.
Where there is a shortage of locals, Israel's construction sector is hiring foreign workers. Until now, 80,000 people from the Palestinian-controlled West Bank and 17,000 from Gaza were working there. But, in the wake of recent clashes, their work permit has been cancelled. It is in this background that workers from many countries including India are invited for the positions.
Official figures reveal that nearly 900 workers have left India for Israel in the past few months. Another 64 people reached there last week. The Israeli Contractors Association has given permits to around 20,000 Indian and Sri Lankan workers after preliminary tests, the construction sector said.
On the other hand, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen signed an agreement last May allowing 42,000 Indians to work in the construction and nursing sectors. The local government has announced that 34,000 people will work in construction and 8,000 in nursing. In the last six months, 800 people have joined the agricultural sector of the country.
