1. Value of Pi: Baudhayana, an Indian mathematician first calculated the value of PI. He is also said to have discovered other mathematical theorems still in use.
2. University: The World's first university was established in Takshashila in 700BC. More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied more than 60 subjects. The University of Nalanda built in the 4th century BC was one of the greatest achievements of ancient India in the field of education.
3. Largest postal system: India still uses the postal system and it shows. They still have the largest postal system in the world.
4. Trains: India has the world’s second largest train network, and it is the largest civilian employer.
5. Chess: Chaturanga—Sanskrit, meaning “four members of an army” was invented in India. Now known all over the world, chess had its beginnings in India.
6. Bananas: Another top export from India is bananas. No other country exports as many bananas, not even Brazil, which is second.
7. Producer of milk: Because India’s pastoral community is heavily dependent on milk, India has become the largest producer of milk in the world.
8. Science Day in Switzerland: To honour Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the 11th President of India, Switzerland has declared 26th May, 2005 as Science Day. On this day, Kalam was visiting Switzerland. It is known that Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is widely popular as the people’s president in the country.
