People are tricked into divulging personal or financial information by fake emails, texts, or phone calls that appear to be coming from a reputable organisation, such as a bank or online retailer.

1) DO pay close attention to the email address of the sender. Keep a watch out since scammers frequently create accounts with email addresses that are remarkably similar to those of your business colleagues.

2) DO warn your coworkers about the scam if they deal with bank accounts.

3) Contact the payment recipient via a different channel (phone) if you receive an email claiming that their payment method or bank account has changed. DON'T respond to the email directly.

4) DO check the legitimacy of websites before entering any sensitive or personal information.

1) DO use endpoint security, a firewall, and other tools and scan computers and devices regularly to prevent malware infections.

2) DO keep your personal and business computers up to date: pay attention to security alerts, update security patches, and conduct periodic system checks.

3) DO make sure that your email accounts are well protected, and don’t share the passwords.

4) DON’T click on attachments or links you aren’t expecting, even if they have innocuous-sounding names (invoice, for example). They often contain malware that gives hackers access to monitor your email and computer activities.

5) DO enable spam filters and block all access to suspicious or blacklisted websites.

1) Be aware of bogus websites; criminals will often use a web address that looks almost identical to the legitimate one, e.g., "abc.org" instead of "abc.com";

2) Verify the company or individual offering the items before making any purchases.

3) Check online reviews and consumer protection groups—for example, have other customers complained about not receiving the promised items?

4) Be cautious if you are asked to make a payment to a bank account in another country, as it is more difficult to communicate with entities abroad once fraud has been detected.

5) Keep your radar on high alert, especially if you are asked to pay unplanned fees.

Payment cards are a type of payment system that financial institutions, like banks, issue to their clients. These cards give the owner access to the money in their specified bank accounts or through a credit account, allow them to make payments electronically, and allow them to use automated teller machines.

> DO keep your cards safe. Regularly check your bank/credit card accounts.

> DO look carefully at ATMs and payment terminals to make sure there are no suspicious objects around the card slot.

> DO keep your distance from other people when using payment terminals.

> DON’T disclose your PIN or passwords. Banks will never ask you for this over the phone or by email.

> DON’T provide bank details unless you initiated the payment process. If you are contacted by your bank to update details or take advantage of a special offer.

> DON’T click on the link in the email. Check out the legitimate website or contact the bank.

> DON’T make a payment online or do any online banking if you are connected to public Wi-Fi, as your information can be easily stolen.
