How do you change the firewall settings on Windows 10?
You can change firewall settings in Windows 10 by using the built-in Windows Firewall settings. Here's how to do it:
Open Windows Security:
Click on the Windows Start button (Windows icon) in the lower-left corner of your screen.
Type "Windows Security" and press Enter. This will open the Windows Security app.
Access Firewall & Network Protection:
In the Windows Security app, select "Firewall & Network Protection" from the left-hand menu.
Adjust Firewall Settings:
Under "Firewall & Network Protection," you'll see three network profiles: Domain network, Private network, and Public network. Each profile can have different firewall settings.
Click on the network profile you want to change (e.g., Private network).
Change Firewall Settings:
You will see options for "Windows Firewall" and "Firewall settings." Click on "Firewall settings."
Modify Inbound and Outbound Rules:
Under "Firewall settings," you can modify inbound and outbound rules. Inbound rules control how programs or services can communicate with your computer, and outbound rules control how your computer can communicate with other devices or services.
Click on "Inbound Rules" or "Outbound Rules" to view and modify specific rules for incoming and outgoing connections.
Create New Rules:
You can also create new inbound and outbound rules by clicking on "New Rule" and following the wizard. This allows you to specify which programs or ports are allowed or blocked.
Change Advanced Settings:
If you need to access more advanced firewall settings, you can click on "Advanced settings" on the left-hand side. This will open the Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security application, where you can configure advanced rules, connection security rules, and more.
Turn Firewall On or Off:
To enable or disable the firewall for a specific network profile, you can go back to the "Firewall & Network Protection" screen and toggle the switch for the corresponding network profile.
Review and Adjust Notifications:
Under "Firewall & Network Protection," you can also configure notification settings to control how the firewall notifies you about blocked or allowed connections.
Close the Windows Security App:
Once you've made the necessary changes, you can close the Windows Security app.
Remember that modifying firewall settings should be done with caution, as it can affect the security and functionality of your computer. Be sure you understand the implications of the changes you make, and only allow necessary connections to ensure the safety of your system.
