Google Expands Mobile App Indexing in Search Results...

Did you hear the news that Google is now indexing more mobile app content in its search results? That means, for those who have apps installed on their mobile devices, they could be seeing more relevant app content for their search queries. And with that announcement, Google also mentioned a huge opportunity for app creators: Android app indexing is now available to all.

Back in April and in May, Google revealed expansions to the feature it rolled out in December 2013. If you’re not familiar with the way it works, those searching on a mobile device can be served results from content within an app installed on their phone if it’s relevant to the query.

As Google puts it, "Sometimes the best answer is on a website, and sometimes it's in an app." With the latest announcement, Google also says there would be modifications to the way the app results were displayed.

Approaches to advertising fall into two general categories: long-term campaigns and burst campaigns:

Long-term campaigns are designed to acquire quality, long-term users that remain engaged and contribute to the financial component of the app. Long-term campaigns also play a role in building brand recognition and re-engaging existing app users.
Burst campaigns are designed to move apps up the top charts in app marketplaces. In most cases the quality of users is relatively poor, but moving up the top charts helps acquire additional organic installs.

These strategies each play a distinct and important role. Understanding the strengths and limitations of each type will enable you to implement successful mobile advertising campaigns and improve the probability of achieving a strong return on your ad spend.

Guest blogging has exploded in the past year, and it's going to remain one of the most effective means of building quality inbound links, traffic, and branding exposure in 2014. However, it's absolutely critical that you're creating high quality content, and using extremely stringent criteria when selecting your target sites.

In other words, you need to apply the same high ethos approach to guest blogging that you do to the rest of your SEO efforts. If you dip a toe into spammy waters where guest blogging is essentially scattershot article marketing with a 2014 update, you're likely to be penalized in a future Penguin update.

Moz's most recent study of ranking factors confirms that Google+ is playing an increasingly significant role in a solid SEO ranking. The immediate areas to focus on include:

Establishing Google Authorship of your content, and tying it to your Google+ account. Authorship, which brings your body of content together, will play an important role in the SERPs as well as strengthening your Author Rank.

Those +1's add up. It isn't clear exactly how much Google +1's directly contribute, but it's fair to say that it's a major factor in the "social signals" component of Google's algorithm. I expect this to increase in the year ahead.
