Big announcements in Apple WWDC 2014: New Mac OS , iOS 8 and lot more capabilities for the App Developers.
Summary of few of the updations or new features provided in two OS releases.
New MAC OS, Yosemite:
Mac OS X redesign. New design resembles to that of iOS, focussing on Clarity, Deference and Depth.
The notification centre is cleaned up and adds a new “Today’s view”
Spotlight can now be summoned in the middle of the desktop and lets you search through much more than just your drive.
QuickType is a new keyboard feature which is context aware.
iCloud Drive lets you access all the files in iCloud via a folder available across devices, including Windows.
Safari is now faster than ever before.
Continuity is a big new feature. You can do work collaboratively across all Apple Devices.
You can even make phone calls through your Mac now.
iOS 8:
You can now instantly reply to messages without leaving the app you’re in.
The new multi-tasking feature now shows your frequently dialled contacts as well
QuickTyoe is a new keyboard feature which is context aware.
You can now chose to share you location information in the messaging app as well
New Enterprise features like Device Enrolment Program, Expanded Data Protection and lots more
HealthKit is a new set of APIs that work with the new Health app.
Family Sharing is another cool addition. Share location with your family members, also share apps that others have bought, maximum up to 6 family members
Siri is now smarter.
The App store gets a few updates as well. Developers can now put up app previews, which are short video clips on how the app works. App bundles lets the developer bundles a few of their apps at a discounted price. Finally, TestFlight is a platform which allows developers to invite users to Beta test their apps.
Extensibility is another big feature. This lets two apps share data via the OS, in a secure manner.
Developers can now add widgets to their apps and just like Android, you can now perform functions using those widgets without having to fire up the app.
Finally support for third-party keyboards.
Opening up of Touch ID API so third-party apps can take advantage of the fingerprint scanner.
The Photos app gets some much needed flexibility as well
HomeKit is a new set of API’s which will allow you to control various electronic devices in your home through the iPhone
Metal is a new API for games.
SpriteKit, which was introduced last year also gets an update.
brand new programming language called Swift. This lets developers create faster performing apps with lesser code.
