We found this 1977 Cinerex 8mm projector a few months ago. The lamp was dead, the sprockets jammed, the reel arm bent out of shape.
We could have left it as a shelf piece. Instead, our team spent weeks bringing it back — cleaning the gate, freeing the mechanism, sourcing a lamp that still throws that warm, flickering light.
Because this machine matters. Before Netflix, before 4K, before streaming was a word — this is how movie night began. No pause button. No watch-it-later. Families sat together because if you missed it, you missed it.
It now lives in the MCBEE cinema — fifty years of technology behind it, and the exact same feeling in front of it.
Technology should be simple. The magic never was about the machine.
