Apple lived up to the hype it generated on the 10th anniversary of the iPhone on Tuesday at its Steve Jobs Theatre by unveiling three flagship phones: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. The first two phones, incremental upgrades over last year’s iPhone 7, will be available in India from September 29, with prices starting at Rs 64,000. The iPhone X will be available in India from November 3, with prices starting at Rs 89,000.

The iPhone X sports a unique FaceID facial recognition system to unlock the device -- just look at your phone to unlock it. Wearing a hat, glasses or new hairstyle can’t fool the FaceID system that also works with Apple Pay.

The iPhone X features wireless charging, an infrared camera and special hardware for facial recognition, which will replace the fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone. The home button found on previous iPhones is also gone, and users will instead tap the device to wake it up.

The screen on the iPhone X is about the size of the current iPhone 7 plus, though the phone itself is smaller. It features richer colours thanks to a new technology called OLED that other vendors such as Samsung are also rolling out.

Apple on Tuesday launched its latest iPhones, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, at its Apple Park. The new iPhones are incremental upgrades over the last year’s iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be available in India from September 29, with the prices starting at Rs 64,000.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be available in space grey, silver and an all-new gold finish in 64GB and 256GB models. The company is also offering in-house designed accessories including leather and silicon cases in a variety of colours, starting at Rs 3,100. Lightning Docks in colour-matching metallic finishes will also be available for Rs 4,700.

The Apple iPhone 8 comes with 4.7-inch Retina HD display whereas the iPhone 8 Plus sports a larger 5.5-inch Retina HD displays. The smartphones run on iOS 11 out-of-the-box and are powered by Apple’s newest A11 Bionic chipset.

The newer SoC also comes integrated with in-house designed GPU which is claimed to deliver 30% faster graphics performance than the previous generation. With built-in neural engine, the A11 Bionic chipset features machine learning and Augmented Reality (AR) support. The GPU further enables graphics at 60fps.

The iPhone 8 comes with singular 12-megapixel sensor with HDR mode, quad LED True Tone Flash and 4K videos up to 60fps and 1080p slow motion videos at 240 fps. The iPhone 8 Plus comes with dual 12-megapixel sensor with Portrait Mode (also includes Portrait Lighting) that delivers shallow depth-of-field effect in five different lighting styles.

NEW DELHI: We are just few hours away from the one of the biggest launches of the year. Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is all set for iPhone 8 launch - along with two other models and Apple Watch -- at an event in California today.
Apple will unveil its latest range of iPhones along with its anniversary edition phone in Cupertino today. The event is scheduled to take place at the Steve Jobs Theater located on Apple's Spaceship campus. This is for the first time that Apple is organising an event at the new campus. The event will start at 10 am PT (10.30 pm IST).

As per various leaks and rumours it is expected that Apple iPhone 8 or iPhone X will cost around $1000. In February this year, a report surfaced online suggesting that the next iPhone will cost upwards of $1,000, but a base 64GB model could start at $850 to $900 in the US. iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus will start at around $649 and $749, respectively.

Some reports also suggest that the iPhones will go on pre-order starting September 15 and are expected to go on sale starting September 22. Talking about India, it is expected that the company will launch the devices in India around Diwali sometime in the third week of October.

Coming to the specifications, as per previous reports the Apple iPhone 8 or iPhone X will run on company's latest 10nm A11 processor and will come with an edge-to-edge OLED display just like the Samsung Galaxy S8+. The smartphone is expected to sport 3GB of RAM and will come in three storage variants - 64GB, 256GB and 512GB. This time it is also expected to offer support for wireless charging and will have a dual selfie camera. The home button will also be replaced by the facial-recognition technology.
