India’s 17-year-old archer Kumkum Mohod made history on Saturday by clinching the country’s first-ever individual women’s recurve gold medal at the Asian Games 2026. In a thrilling final against South Korea’s Oh Yejin, Kumkum emerged victorious 6-5 after the match ended in a 5-5 tie across five sets.
The gold medal came down to a dramatic shoot-off, where Oh scored an 8 before Kumkum delivered a perfect 10 under pressure to secure the title. With this remarkable achievement, Kumkum became the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve medal at the Asian Games, making her historic debut even more memorable with a gold medal finish.
