India, home to 60% of the Asiatic elephant population, is fighting to protect its revered giants from human activity. The Northeast Frontier Railway is leading the charge with a huge success: its AI-enabled Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) system is converting 141 km of optical fiber into super-sensors, cutting elephant train deaths by over 50% since 2013! Simultaneously, non-profit efforts, like those by the Ear to Wild Foundation in North Bengal, are prototyping AI-backed acoustic sensors to detect elephant calls, providing crucial early warnings and a new layer of defense against human-elephant conflict.

Advanced thermal imaging and AI are revolutionizing Indian wildlife conservation, providing rangers with the critical ability to "see in the dark" for anti-poaching, HWC mitigation, and fire control. We're seeing real impact: Panna Tiger Reserve deployed thermal drones in 2022 for night security, and the Coimbatore Forest Division's AI-enabled thermal camera system (Feb 2024) achieved zero elephant-train collisions on that critical stretch, showcasing the power of FLIR-compatible tools like Diginetra for protecting species like the Royal Bengal Tiger and Asian Elephant.
