There has been much discussion with the hope of AI improving our ability to handle cyber threats & malicious activities. Sophisticated machine learning algorithms would allow AI systems to be trained to detect malware, run pattern recognition, & detect even the smallest behaviors of malware or ransomware attacks before it enters the system. However AI is not a replacement for human intelligence, it can advance cybersecurity in many ways. A key topic at this year's summit is how AI and Cybersecurity can enhance each other. The panel discussion on “AI in Cybersecurity: Hype or Reality” will provide insights on how AI has been used to enhance cybersecurity capabilities & how cybersecurity can help secure AI systems. The panelists will share the challenges & opportunities. The talk on “AI in Healthcare” will be given by Dr. James ANGLE (Co-chair, Healthcare WG, CSA & Product Manager, IT Services – Information Security, Trinity Health ). The emergence of AI as a tool for better healthcare offers opportunities to improve patient & clinical outcomes & reduce costs. Robotics & diagnosis & treatment applications can improve outcomes. Robotic process automation that performs structured digital administrative tasks can reduce cost. Big data & predictive analytics aid in improving population health. While all these uses can improve healthcare, they also come with potential pitfalls. Bias in AI presents significant challenges & can lead to false outcomes. This also presents ethical & legal challenges that must be addressed. Additionally, to be truly effective, AI requires multiple data sets & resides in the cloud, which causes concern about the privacy & security of patient data. The keynote address on “Security in AI and Cloud Computing” will be given by Timothy GRANCE (Senior Advisor for Emerging Technology, NIST). Perhaps no other technology topic arouses as much emotion, adulation, paranoia, dark/sunny conjecture or hype than artificial intelligence (AI). This talk seeks to give a balanced, neutral assessment of the area in general, with some specific opinions on the security issues in certain areas such as machine learning and neural networks. Moreover, the talk will briefly assess the use and utility of applying AI in the cloud and note the challenges for the security analyst. The talk entitled “Doing Cloud Business in the EU: Privacy & Contractual Reflections” will be presented by Prof. Paolo BALBONI (Co-chair, CSA Privacy Level Agreement WG & Principal Author, CSA GDPR CoC). The presentation will update the audience on the main issues and opportunities concerning the provision of cloud services in the EU. We will discuss both privacy and contractual aspects focusing the attention on present and forthcoming Codes of Conducts, data transfer, collaboration duties, limitation of liabilities, etc. Relevant case law will be analysed as well as recent trends concerning data protection as part of the ESG/Corporate Social Responsibility. The keynote address on “Building a Better Playbook for Incident Response” will be given by Mike MELLOR (VP, Security, Adobe). Recent industry-wide security issues, in open-source software in particular, have energized companies to revisit their playbooks and processes for handling these types of issues. This is especially true now that vulnerabilities are now affecting software libraries that are used broadly to perform very common, basic service functions. Compound this with the fact that the situations around these vulnerabilities can change by the day or even the hour – resulting in a unique level of both visibility and complexity for any in our industry affected. For the industry in general, such broadly applicable incidents are relatively new – and we are all adapting to how we deal with and help mitigate them moving forward. Standard security practices need to be revisited regularly to adapt to these broader potential issues. These types of vulnerabilities can impact many applications and services – and are also often too new to be flagged by widely used commercial scanning tools. You need to mobilize the entire company to effectively deal with these issues and properly manage customer expectations. Mike MELLOR will share best practices Adobe has learned to help enhance our own playbooks to better deal with the evolving complexity and scope of industry-wide vulnerabilities. The presentation on “Cybersecurity in the Quantum Era” will be presented by Bruno HUTTNER & Ludovic PERRET (Co-chairs, Quantum-Safe Security WG, CSA). As emphasized by the recent announcements on the quantum advantage, quantum computers can already perform computations, deemed impossible or at least very lengthy with classical computers. Having access to improved computing power is great news in many areas. However, this also represents a threat for most of our communications. Indeed, cryptography, which is underpinning the security of our communication infrastructure, is based on some hard mathematical problems, which will become tractable with a quantum computer. Our complete cybersecurity infrastructure has to be revamped. In this talk, the speakers start with a brief explanation of the quantum computer and explain the quantum threat. They then present possible solutions. Some solutions are based on new algorithms. These are known as quantum-resistant algorithms & can be complemented with quantum solutions, which utilize the same peculiar properties of the quantum world to thwart the quantum computer threat. Together, they will be part of a new quantum-safe infrastructure. Any organisation or person relying on secure communication for his business or personal life has to start taking this new threat into account.
