๐๏ธ A Glimpse into History & Tradition
Tamil New Year, also known as Chithirai Thirunaal, is celebrated on the first day of the Tamil month Chithirai, usually falling on April 14.
๐ Historical records and Sangam literature mention this day as the start of the Tamil calendar, which has been in use for over 2000 years!
โจ Traditional Celebrations Include:
Kani (auspicious sight): A carefully arranged tray with fruits, betel leaves, flowers, mirror, gold/silver items, and a lamp โ seen first thing in the morning for good luck.
Neem flower pachadi: A special dish blending sweet, sour, and bitter flavors โ symbolizing the various emotions of life.
Temple visits, new clothes, and spending time with family are essential parts of the celebration.
Let us take pride in our deep-rooted traditions and welcome the New Year with renewed hope and energy. ๐
