First utilised on the Mac in 1983, monkey testing was used for the MacWrite and MacPaint tests. Steve Capps and his colleagues utilised "The Monkey" which was a program to enter random events 🐒

As a testing device, The Monkey was extremely efficient and, while the writings were gibberish, the crew found it fun to look at the drawings created by The Monkey.

The Monkey was initially good for crashing the apps however, as the main fault was repaired, the monkey found defects that were more challenging.
