“We hope students walk away with a different understanding of AI and how it works in the world, and that they feel empowered to play an important role in shaping the technology.” ~ https://lnkd.in/fWGsaAF

An interesting initiative by MIT to equip students in designing & using AI-powered systems ethically for the jobs of the future!

MIT researchers and collaborators have developed an open-source curriculum to teach young students about ethics and artificial intelligence.

"People are looking at the technology as if the technological advances are a problem. The problem is in the social systems, and whether we’re going to have a social system that shares fairly, or one that focuses all the improvement on the 1% and treats the rest of the people like dirt. That’s nothing to do with technology." - Geoffrey Hinton (Godfather of Deep Learning)

Well said, Sir!

Martin Ford made waves with his 2015 book, Rise of the Robots, which details the many accelerating trends in automation and how they’re slated to impact business and, especially, employment. For his next book, Architects of Intelligence: The Truth About AI from the People Building It, he, well, at...

My favourite is the one below from Teg Dosanjh, Director of Connected Living, Samsung UK and Ireland:
"In 2020, we’re going to see increased public demand for the demystification and democratisation of AI. Increasing public understanding of AI, and actively seeking to hear people’s hopes and concerns, is the only way forward to ensure that the role of AI is both seen as a force for good for everyone in our society."

What's yours?

Couldn't agree more, Hindol Sengupta!

India is 17th on the Government Artificial Intelligence Readiness Index, ahead of China and Israel. AI has been described as the ‘new electricity’. India should spare no effort to break into the top 10.

"...companies and their partners need to move from good intentions to accountable actions that mitigate risk. They should be transparent about both benefits and harms these AI tools may have in the long run. Their publicity around the tools should reflect the reality, not the hype." - https://www.wired.com/story/opinion-ai-for-good-is-often-bad/

Well said, Mark Latonero! This makes absolute sense as long as we work with unmatured technologies and biased training datasets.

Trying to solve poverty, crime, and disease with (often biased) technology doesn’t address their root causes.

"Finland’s approach of making A.I. accessible and understandable to its citizens is part of a broader movement of people who want to democratize the technology, putting utility and opportunity ahead of profit." - https://onezero.medium.com/what-would-more-democratic-a-i-look-like-ea729f5f7b0a

Excited to witness new movements that work towards putting AI in the hands of the people!

A new movement is pushing for A.I.’s future to be in the hands of the people
