Windows 1.0 was released more than a year after Microsoft collaborated with Apple Computer to develop applications for Apple’s original Macintosh PC in January 1984. Spearheaded by company founder Bill Gates, the graphical, 16-bit multi-tasking shell was developed from its predecessor, MS-DOS software (1981). The commercial graphical personal computing software was initially received poorly by critics for performance issues and lack of user resources. With the release of Windows XP on October 25, 2001, 1.0 was declared obsolete and support ceased 67 days after. Many versions later, we are now on Windows 10.
