Research has found 90% of job ads in technology, healthcare, and business management required a degree. This approach could be restricting the organization's talent pool significantly, says Dr. John O'Donovan-Bennett. He says employers should focus more on work and life skills as a better indication of ability.

Are skills a better predictor of success than degrees?

Companies around the world are looking beyond official qualifications and more to the skills talent could bring to the organization. APAC lagged behind this trend, recording only 3% growth over the same period. LinkedIn Talent Solutions data recorded that the share of managers hired without a four-year degree jumped 20%.

Skills-based hiring for stronger retention and more diversity :

Hiring for skills appears to foster stronger loyalty and retention among talent. Non-graduates spend 34% more time with an organization compared to graduates. Organizations serious about diversity should consider qualification-focused hiring, says LinkedIn. The company's findings suggest that candidates from underrepresented backgrounds can bring the natural talent.

Ramping up your internal mobility success :

LinkedIn's Future of Talent report found that 86% of companies surveyed in APAC are making an effort to fill roles internally. 66% are providing upskilling or reskilling opportunities for internal employees. ANZ's experience saw branch staff help meet demand in call centers and create new opportunities.

Culture plays an important role in the employee experience and can provide a strong sense of affiliation and social capital in an enterprise, writes Andrew Wylie. He suggests three levels of organization culture: digital, paper and informal.
Artifacts –
Firm artifacts can be easily identifiable by visitors to an organization and may reflect clues about what is important in the organization. These include the architecture of the office, location of workplaces, furniture, office layout, dress code, and other visible elements.
Espoused Values –
A company's values can be found in its mission, vision, and shared values. Other signals of values can include slogans, marketing, brand positioning, communication messages, organizational mantra, organization structures, and how work is organized.
Basic Assumptions –
In the 1980s, organization culture was more of an in-person experience. In the digital age, it's time to re-examine and reset our ideas for shaping an organization culture. Digital tools can help organizations create a more digitally-enabled workplace.
