We have worked in various domains like retail, telecommunication and healthcare and handled roles such as data/database architects and production support for business critical/online systems like e-commerce. Our team has implemented very large OLTP and

DSS databases and implemented HA, DR using OS clustering, Oracle RAC and Data Guard for multi terabyte databases. We have designed and implemented backup strategy using RMAN and BCV or split mirror backups. We have experience in H/W Designing and capacity planning of DSS and OLTP databases considering vertical and horizontal scalability.

Hi All,

We all started our careers as DBA's, but, what is the future especially when people talk about autonomous databases, automation of admin jobs, Hadoop, NoSQL DB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MyRocks (MySQL Fork).

What options DBA's have when we see our number of years of experience increasing on the CV. Shouldn't we get cross trained on other databases or data management platforms such Hadoop?

The answer is big YES. But, how are we going to cope with such a big change, how do we reskill ourselves, what tools are present today so that we can look at various databases and understand performance behaviours and quickly troubleshoot.
