12/02/2012

Friends, Have you ever used custom lists in Excel. Just imagine a data which you require in a particular order. Say the names of Circles Agra.......Vizag. Everytime I want this list to be filled automatically by Excel without any hassle. Custom Lists will do this for you.

Click the Microsoft button at the top left corner of Excel window,
Click Excel options.
Popular -> Top options for working with Excel -> Edit Custom Lists...
Custom Lists dialog appears.
With the NEW LIST highlighted, under the List entries, start typing all the Circle names in alphabetical order one below the other using enter key after each circle. Click Add.
Nest List is added
Click Ok to come out to the option.
Once, you are in the excel sheet, type Agra in the first cell.
Copy the cells by dragging the indicator at the bottom right of the cell.
Excel fills all the circle names automatically.
Instead double clicking the indicator, also fills the entire list in the sheet.

Start experimenting... Send your comments/feedback.

For commands like New, Open, Save, Save As, Click the Microsoft button on the top left corner of the Microsoft Excel window. Do venture into the same. You will find many old options there.

In Excel 2007, the erstwhile Menu/toolbars have been replaced with what is called the Ribbon. Ribbon is a graphical stretch which will hold all the commands grouped together under different contextual heads so that all the relevant commands come at one place. It is very handly. The problem is that the options in the older versions have been regrouped in the new menu structure and it may take some time to trace them. You can scroll through various ribbon options by using your scroll mouse.

Hi canmen/women,

Since, I presume that we have Excel 2007 installed in all the PCs in our Bank, I am thinking of introducing you all to one thing a day about Excel 2007. Though lot of changes have taken place in Excel 2007, many of the user friendly options/shortcuts have been retained in Excel 2007. You will be getting to know these things in the days to come. I will try to post as often as possible. Kindly spread the message to all Canmen/women.

First and foremost, the file formats in Excel 2007:

One needs to understand that with Excel 2007 the file format is changed to *.xlsx. Files created out of Excel 2007 will not be readable in older versions of Excel viz., 97, 2000, XP, 2003. But, all the files created out of earlier versions will be editable in Excel 2007. But, the features compatible with the older verions only will be available to such files. The new features, changes made in Excel 2007 will be learnt in the days to come.

Pls comment - Sridhar.
