Every database migration starts with the same fear: “What if we have to take the app down?”

Your SQL Server query ran in 80 ms yesterday. Today it takes 45 seconds. 😩

Same query. Same server. So what changed?

Think of a delivery company that sends a bike for 3 parcels, then makes it the rule. Next order: 2 million parcels. The bike goes anyway. 🚲

That’s the Parameter Sensitive Plan (PSP) problem: SQL Server reuses a plan built for a small request on a huge one.

How to fix it:
✅ Compare the fastest and slowest runs of a query. A big gap is a red flag.
✅ On older versions, use OPTION (RECOMPILE) for critical, low-frequency queries.
✅ On SQL Server 2022, set compatibility level 160 and enable Query Store. It picks the right plan automatically.

Standard support ended on July 31, 2026, and AWS Extended Support fees keep growing the longer you wait.
