Met Gala 2026 asked fashion to become art, and the best looks answered with craft, memory, and meaning.
With the theme Costume Art and dress code Fashion Is Art, the red carpet became a living gallery. But what stood out most was the power of Indian craft on a global stage. From Raja Ravi Varma-inspired couture to Shola work, Kanjivaram, Kalamkari, Pichwai, pure gold threads and heirloom jewels, India did not arrive as inspiration alone. It arrived as authorship.
These were not just beautiful clothes. There were thousands of hours of handwork. Generations of craft. Art history carried on fabric. Designers are turning garments into archives, sculptures, paintings, and cultural statements.
To every designer, stylist, and artisan behind these moments, thank you for reminding us that fashion is not just what we wear. It is what we preserve, what we push forward, and what we choose to honour.
Not ours to claim, only a celebration of the artistry and craftsmanship behind it.
