Over the past five years, the Government of India has invested approximately ₹67,000 crore in skilling the nation’s youth.
Yet, despite these efforts, headlines like "Only 51% of Indian graduates are job-ready" and "Only 10% of 15 lakh graduates likely to secure jobs in 2024" continue to surface.
Where are we falling short?
While numerous skill development programs are conducted across the country, a critical gap remains—we do not effectively measure what skills a candidate has learned or improved during these programs.
Consider these scenarios:
1. In a Python certification program or a college-level Python course, students are assessed primarily on theoretical knowledge. However, key aspects such as problem-solving abilities, logical thinking, and real-world application are often overlooked. Despite this, they receive certifications or exam grades, creating a false sense of competency.
2. Similarly, as parents, we may know our child's marks in math or science in 9th or 10th grade, but do we truly understand their actual skills in these subjects? Do they have the ability to apply these concepts effectively in real-world scenarios?
The Need for Change:
To truly empower the youth with future-ready skills, we must leverage technology-driven assessments that go beyond traditional grades.
