‼️ Mistakes first-time online store owners repeat

Starting an online business is exciting. But many first-time store owners make the same mistakes.

We get it, there’s a lot to figure out at once. So let us help you.

Here are some common mistakes to avoid:

1️⃣ Focusing too much on design, and not enough on clarity

An online store can look good and still confuse people. Within 5 seconds of looking at your website, customers should understand what you sell, who it’s for, and why they should trust you.

2️⃣ Adding too many products too soon

More products don’t always mean more sales. In the beginning, it’s often better to focus on a smaller set of products and present them well.

3️⃣ Writing very little on product pages

Many online stores add a photo, a title, and a price... and stop there.

But customers also want:

• size or usage details

• delivery timeline

• return information

• real photos or reviews

4️⃣ Ignoring trust signals

If your online store doesn’t show reviews, contact details, a return policy, or basic business information, people hesitate.

5️⃣ Trying to get more traffic before fixing the store

Bringing in more visitors won’t help if the online store is hard to trust or hard to buy from. It’s better to improve the experience first.

6️⃣ Doing everything manually for too long

At first, it feels manageable. But as orders grow, manual work starts taking time away from the business itself.

These mistakes are common, but they’re certainly fixable.

You don’t need to get everything perfect from day one. Just keep making the store better step by step.

Growth rarely comes from one big decision. It shows up through small shifts made over time, how you reach customers, how you build trust, and how you simplify the everyday work of running a business.

This is a closer look at how from Tharamangalam, a small town near Salem, Tamil Nadu, evolved without losing what made it work in the first place.

How to increase prices without losing customers ❓

Many online business owners avoid raising prices because they worry customers will leave. But sometimes, maintaining the same prices creates a bigger problem.

Your costs go up. Your margins shrink. And your business becomes harder to sustain.

Customers don’t always leave because of a price increase. But they will leave when the new price doesn’t feel justified.

So before increasing prices, focus on this:

1️⃣ Improve the value around the product

Ask yourself:

• Are the product photos clear?

• Is the description helpful?

• Is the packaging good?

• Is delivery reliable?

• Is support responsive?

People pay for the product, and stay for the experience.

2️⃣ Increase prices gradually

A small increase feels easier to accept than a sudden jump.

This gives customers time to adjust, and gives you time to see how they respond.

3️⃣ Be clear and honest

If needed, communicate it simply. A simple message like this is enough:

"To continue maintaining product quality and service, we’ve made a small price update."

Honest communication makes people trust you.

4️⃣ Make sure your best customers still feel valued

You can do this by:

• giving early access to new products

• creating bundles

• sharing loyalty benefits

This helps customers feel appreciated, even if prices change.

How to price your products without undercutting yourself

If you're starting an online business and thinking "Let me keep my prices slightly lower than others so people will buy," you need to pause. And pivot. Because it may not sustain your business in the long term.

To price your products better, start with this plan:

1️⃣ Know your total cost (not just the product cost)

Include:

• Packaging

• Shipping

• Platform or payment charges

• Returns

If you ignore these, your margin disappears without you noticing.

2️⃣ Don’t compete only on price

Customers don’t always choose the cheapest option. They also look at:

• Product quality

• Photos

• Reviews

• Delivery experience

• Brand trust

If everything else is strong, you don’t have to be the cheapest.

3️⃣ Leave room for growth

If your price is too tight, you can’t run offers, or invest in ads, or handle returns comfortably.

A small margin today can limit your growth tomorrow.

4️⃣ Make your price feel worth it

Instead of reducing prices, increase clarity with better product photos, clear descriptions, honest reviews, and clear policies.

When people understand the value, your price becomes easier to accept.

Bundles vs. Discounts: Which works better and why?

Many ecommerce stores try to increase sales by giving discounts. However, discounts are not the only way. Sometimes, bundles work better.

Let’s break it down. 💁‍♀️

🫴 DISCOUNTS

Example: 20% off on a product

Pros:

✓ This can help bring quick sales.

✓ Discounts are especially useful during seasonal sales.

✓ It also helps clear old inventory fast.

Cons:

⚠️ Discounts can reduce your margins.

⚠️ They are hard to sustain frequently.

⚠️ Customers may wait for the next sale to purchase.

Discounts work best when you need quick attention, when you're clearing stock, or if you're participating in sale events.

🫴 BUNDLES

Example: Buy 2 products together and save $10

Pros:

✓ Bundles increase your average order value.

✓ They help you sell related products together.

✓ They feel like added value, not price cutting.

✓ They push slow-moving stock more naturally.

Cons:

⚠️ They need thoughtful product pairing.

⚠️ They may confuse customers if too complex.

⚠️ They don't always create urgency like discounts do.

Bundles work best when you want to increase cart value without reducing product prices.
