In the IT environment where software dominates, "Zero trust" is considered the default answer to security. But when it comes to its deployment for automotive cybersecurity which is largely defined by software it can be only ensured partial coverage.

And the root cause is directly linked to in-vehicle networks where the blockers lie in the supply chain.

Zero trust at the ECU level needs key management at scale, which requires an in every ECU and provisioning infrastructure to match. And most supply chains don't support that yet.

What works today is partial and dependent on domain isolation at the gateway, on Ethernet segments, and SecOC on the highest risk signals.

It's an incremental path, and sequencing decides whether it holds.

So, what does the interim architecture look like, and what has to be in place before the next step?
