A PCB can look right on-screen and still fail the most basic test: the real component has to match the footprint underneath it.

Before ordering, compare the exact package, pitch, pin numbering and orientation with the manufacturer’s datasheet. A quick physical-fit check can save a very expensive board revision.

Why put components on both sides of a PCB?

Because board area is not free.

Keeping SMD parts on one side usually makes assembly simpler. Using the back can help when space is tight or when a part needs to sit close to something electrically important. The tradeoff is that the second side adds assembly processing and inspection considerations.

So this is not a one-side-good, two-side-bad rule. It is a design-for-manufacturing decision.

Via in pad can solve a routing problem and create an assembly question at the same time.

If the via remains open inside a solder pad, molten solder can wick into the hole during reflow. That can leave less solder available at the joint.

A filled and capped structure is one common controlled approach, but the final choice should follow the package guidance and your fabrication process.

Save this before your next dense BGA or leadless layout.

Tiny part. Very visible problem. 👀

If one side of a small resistor or capacitor wets and pulls before the other during reflow, the component can lift and stand on one end. That defect is called tombstoning.

Common things to check: solder-paste balance, part placement and uneven heating during reflow.

The copper traces on your PCB are not drawn on. They are what is left after everything else is removed 🤯

The board starts with copper covering every single millimetre of its surface. A light sensitive coating goes on top. Your circuit design is exposed onto it using UV light. Then the board goes into an acid bath that eats away all the copper that is not protected. What survives is your trace pattern.

That is how every circuit board is made. Not printed. Etched.
