How we use Six sigma methodology for our clients
WHAT is it?
Six Sigma is a method that examines and minimises faults or flaws by using statistics and data analysis. This approach aims to decrease manufacturing defects to no more than 3.4 flaws per million units or events while accelerating cycle times.
It has 5 major Principles:
1. Focus on the Customer
"Customer is the king." A business needs to understand its customers, their needs, and what drives sales or loyalty. This requires establishing the standard of quality as defined by what the customer or market demands.
2. Measure the Value Stream and Find Your Problem
Have clearly defined goals for data collection including defining the data to be collected, the reason for the data gathering, insights expected, ensuring the accuracy of measurements, and establishing a standardised data collection system. Ask questions and find the root cause.
3. Get Rid of the Junk
Once the issue has been located, you start thinking about how to reduce the likelihood of errors. The gaps are frequently found in lengthy, complex procedures that offer a lot of possibility for error and waste. An good strategy to accomplish quality control is by eliminating the functions.
4. Keep the Ball Rolling
Be sure to involve all stakeholders. Adopt a structured method where your team contributes and works together using their diverse areas of expertise to solve problems. To lower the risk of project or re-design failures and guarantee that the process operates at its best, specialist training and knowledge are needed.
5. Be flexible and responsive
Lean Six Sigma and change are intertwined. A process or function that has been shown to be flawed or inefficient has to be improved upon or eliminated. Every business leader wants to build a leaner, stronger, more competitive company, but change and change management may be difficult and painful.
