How to choose a data logger - Ensure no data loss.
Data loss is one of the most significant drawbacks a data logger can possess. It is estimated that even a millisecond loss can eliminate valuable data, providing deep insights into the vehicle under trial. Hence, a data logger should be able to transmit data without any loss.
An engineer must ensure that the data logger they choose must not lose even a tiny bit of data. Let us look at how an engineer can warrant this problem.
Benchmarking: Always benchmark your chosen data logger with a well-known data logger brand, which is known not to lose much data during transmission. One way is to count the raw CAN data transmitted from each data logger and compare them to identify the amount of loss. Additionally, Rexgen 2, an Influx Technology data logger, ensures no data loss during transmission. We have done 100s of tests and trials and found no data depletion throughout any trial runs.
Manual analysis: An engineer must always conduct a trial run to verify if the data logger is losing any critical data or not. You can do this by looking for "data gaps" on your analysis charts. Influx technology CAN analyser tools have advanced features, such as oscilloscope analysis that helps you identify if your data is in line with the transmitted sampling points.
