🌿 Development That Makes Room for Wildlife!
India built a highway through a tiger corridor.
But instead of simply asking wildlife to make way for development, engineers designed infrastructure that allows both to coexist.
This is NH-44 through the Pench Tiger Reserve, between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Parts of the highway were elevated, while animal underpasses and wildlife crossings were incorporated to help animals move safely through the forest.
And the results are encouraging.
Monitoring by the Wildlife Institute of India found that multiple species were using these crossing structures—including recorded tiger crossings.
For people, the highway means better connectivity and mobility.
For wildlife, it creates safer ways to move between habitats without having to cross a busy highway.
I believe development is essential for a growing country.
But the real measure of progress is not simply how much infrastructure we build—it's how thoughtfully we build it.
When engineering can connect cities while also respecting the ecosystems around them, that's the kind of progress worth pursuing.
Because the best infrastructure doesn't just connect places.
