Redditor Degru shares a method to enable hardware acceleration for YouTube videos. This leads to decreased processor load and therefore lower power consumption and longer battery life (in case of laptops). Try at your own risk, but it worked great for us - 70% CPU load dropped to normal 15-20% while watching videos on YouTube in Firefox! (Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit)
