DGHS Strengthens Prevention of Ineligible Blood Donors With an Additional Biometric Verification Step Guidelines
Ensuring the safety and quality of blood transfusion services is a critical public health responsibility.
In its recent communication (January 2026), the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued guidelines to strengthen the prevention of ineligible blood donors by introducing an additional biometric or facial verification stepduring donor identification and registration.
This guidance reflects an important shift:
Preventive controls at the point of donor registration are essential to stop ineligible donors before blood collection.
At Strides, we have been addressing this challenge through BDIRS (Biometric-based Donor Identification & Registration System)โa field-proven solution that enables:
Biometric-based donor identification at blood centres and outdoor donation camps
Objective enforcement of donor eligibility before collection
Fast and accurate matching across large donor databases
Portable, standalone biometric workflows suitable for real-world camp environments
BDIRS is already used by blood centres of all sizes across India, supporting safer, more consistent donor identification practices.
As blood services continue to evolve, technology-driven donor identification and eligibility enforcement will play a key role in strengthening patient safety and public trust.
