आज मे महिन्यातील दुसरा रविवार ‘जागतिक मातृदिन’. आईवर असलेलं प्रेम साजरं करण्यासाठीचा दिवस. आज जगभरात आईचे प्रेम, त्याग याबाद्दलची कृतज्ञता व्यक्त केली जात आहे.

अमेरिकेचे 28 वे राष्ट्राध्यक्ष थॉमस वूडरॉ विल्सन यांनी 8 मे 1914 या दिवशी मे महिन्यातील दुसरा रविवार हा अधिकृतपणे मातृदिन म्हणून घोषित केला. या दिवशीची सार्वजनिक सुट्टी आपल्या आईसोबत साजरी करावी, आईसाठी एक दिवस द्यावा या हेतूने अमेरिकेपुरती मर्यादित ही घोषणा होती. त्यानंतर सर्वत्र हा दिवस साजरा करण्यास सुरुवात झाली.

प्रत्येक देशामध्ये वेगवेगळया दिवशी मातृदिन साजरा केला जातो. भारत, कॅनडा, ऑस्ट्रेलिया आणि ब्राझील या देशांमध्ये मे महिन्याचा दुसरा रविवार जागतिक मातृदिन म्हणून साजरा केला जातो. तर 16 व्या शतकापासून इंग्लडमध्ये एक मोठा समुदाय प्रभू येशूची आई मदर मेरीचा सन्मान करत असे.

जी आई मुलांना जन्म देते. त्यांच्या सुखासाठी अविरत झटते. अशा आईसाठी एक दिवस नको, तर प्रत्येक दिवस आपण आईच्या नावाने साजरा करायला हवा. कारण समाजमाध्यमांवर आई सोबतचे छायाचित्र प्रसारीत करण्यापेक्षा किंवा व्हॉट्सअॅपवर डीपी ठेवण्यापेक्षा आपल्या आईबरोबर काही काळ घालवा, असं सांगण्याची आज गरज आहे. चला विचार करा आणि आईवर असणारं तुमचं प्रेम रोज व्यक्त करा.
