When researchers experience friction trying to access an article, they usually assume the 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝘁.

But the real bottleneck in modern academia isn't always a lack of content—it is 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

When open web search engines and institutional authentication pathways don’t talk to each other seamlessly, everyone loses:

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀: They experience "time poverty." Navigating repetitive logins and dead ends leads to research fatigue and abandoned searches.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲.

It begins with a search — followed by decisions on what to open, what to explore further, and what’s actually available to access.

Too often, those answers come late in the process, after switching tabs, multiple clicks, and interrupted workflows.

The experience improves when access is visible earlier in the process — 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and helping researchers spend less time figuring things out and more time engaging with the research itself.

Last week, we had the opportunity to engage with some of Mexico’s most dedicated library professionals. 📍

The 𝟱𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶́𝗮 — hosted by Ambac México — brought together academic libraries around the theme “𝗗𝗲𝗹 𝗕𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗶𝗲𝗻” (“𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱”), exploring how data, information, and knowledge can contribute to a more equitable society.

It’s a theme that strongly reflects the evolving role of libraries today — not just as repositories of information, but as active enablers of access, learning, and research impact.

Our team member, Doug, joined our channel partner, Maskhay, in presenting 𝗠𝘆𝗟𝗢𝗙𝗧 and other AI-driven solutions through focused discussions with librarians and interactions in the publishers’ hall.

The conversations were thoughtful, insightful, and centered around how libraries can create more connected, discoverable, and user-centric digital experiences.

Academic libraries in Mexico are thinking seriously about the role they play — not just in research, but in access to 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. There's a lot of meaningful work ahead, and we're glad to be part of it.

𝗢𝗳 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀, 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟭 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱.

In 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, 𝟴𝟰% of researchers used AI Tools in their workflow, up from 𝟱𝟳% in 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰.

That's not gradual adoption. That's a near-complete shift in how academic research is conducted — in a single year.

𝟲𝟮% are using AI specifically for research and publication tasks. 𝟳𝟮% are using it at least monthly. Only 𝟱% who started have stopped.

We saw the same pattern first-hand — engagement with 𝗔𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝘆𝗟𝗢𝗙𝗧 jumped from 𝟵% 𝘁𝗼 𝟲𝟴% between 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱.

The question for libraries and institutions isn't whether this is happening. The question is 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆.

Places like 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 didn’t rely on scale or technology. They relied on intent. On understanding 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱.

Discovery there wasn’t always efficient. But it was meaningful. Guided by people, shaped by curiosity, and open to anyone willing to explore.

Strand didn’t survive the digital shift.
But the instinct behind it did.

That access to the 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, can shape how someone thinks, learns, or questions.

The formats have changed.
The belief hasn’t.

It was a pleasure participating in the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟) this year. Beyond the beautiful campus at IIM Kashipur, the event highlighted a fundamental shift in our industry: libraries are moving from being passive access points to becoming active enablers of research and impact.

Our team was on the ground, and it was rewarding to see such strong intent behind the conversations.

Between the booth interactions, our CTO, Madhukar Pai, shared insights during the panel on the "𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗜 𝗘𝗰𝗼-𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺". It is clear that AI is no longer a distant concept but the new backbone of modern library services. Meanwhile, Vaaibhav Goel hosted a walkthrough, demonstrating how MyLOFT practically solves the "𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝘅" of digital access by streamlining user engagement.
