Most robots that climb stairs were told exactly how, every joint angle, every step, mapped out in advance.
LimX's TRON 2 wasn't. In its bipedal mode, it uses live visual input to read each staircase as it approaches, planning its own path up or down, step by step, adapting to steps up to 20cm tall without a preset choreography.
That distinction matters more than it sounds.
Preprogrammed movement only works in the exact environment it was built for. Real buildings aren't that predictable, stairs vary, steps get worn, lighting changes.
A robot that sees and decides, rather than one that simply executes, is the difference between a demo and something that actually works in your building.
