Segev Technologies proudly presents a state-of-the-art 26-motor stage rigging system that combines industrial-grade precision with intuitive control.

Iโ€™m really proud to share one of the most complex and satisfying projects Iโ€™ve done so far ๐ŸŽญโš™๏ธ

Over the last months we designed, built and commissioned a 26-axis motorized stage rigging system (โ€œืฆื•ื’ื™ืโ€) for a new theatre โ€“ a system that turns the fly tower into a precise, programmable motion platform.

Instead of ropes and counterweights, everything is now driven by 26 motors, each with its own inverter, all synchronized with ยฑ1 cm positioning accuracy. Lighting battens, curtains and projection screens can move smoothly, repeatably, and safely โ€“ exactly to the same height every time.

๐Ÿ”ง Whatโ€™s inside?
At the core of the system is a Beckhoff PLC talking to 26 Mitsubishi VFDs over EtherCAT.
This industrial architecture gives us:

Real-time, synchronized motion of all 26 axes

Very smooth acceleration and deceleration

Reliable operation for long-term daily use

On stage we built a dedicated control desk with:

Two screens showing all 26 axes in real time

A touchscreen for presets, trims and diagnostics

An industrial joystick for live movement

Hard-wired emergency stop and a full safety layer

The system supports three operating modes:

Show Mode โ€“ pre-programmed cues for complete shows, so complex transitions can be recalled at the push of a button.

Position Mode โ€“ send any bar to an exact height (for LX battens, legs, borders, screens, etc.) with repeatable trims.

Speed Mode โ€“ manual joystick control for focusing and rehearsals, with smooth, variable speed and full safety supervision.

Because weโ€™re lifting heavy loads above people, safety was a top priority: emergency stop circuits, travel limits on every axis, monitoring and clear feedback for the operator โ€“ all designed as an integrated system.

Medical grade BLDC motor FOC Controller with LCD and fiber optic wire control

We designed a high-precision embedded control platform designed to drive a BLDC motor using Field-Oriented Control (FOC), control the position of a fiber-optic light delivery wire for medical therapy, and provide a user-programmable motion interface via a full TFT touch display.

The architecture uses two dedicated STM32 MCUs for deterministic motor control and robust system management.

A medical fiber optic wire is mechanically moved by the BLDC motor. To determine its precise position:

Dual-axis sub-millidegree inclinometer system with ยฑ0.002 Degree resolution.

Segev Technologies built an industrial two-node inclinometer solution around Murataโ€™s SCL3400-D01 (2-axis, digital SPI) to level a high-precision wafer stage at a major semiconductor manufacturer. A local sensor head (nRF52 Cortex-M4) acquires tilt data directly from the Murata SCL3400-D01, performs on-board filtering and temperature/cross-axis compensation, and transmits the processed angles over its integrated 2.4 GHz BLE link to a remote display/controller (nRF52), which manages the front-panel user interface and visualization shown in the photos. The system continuously streams X/Y angles in real time and exposes zero/hold presets for the production techs.

I led the physical experimentation to understand and control liquid surface tension dynamics while designing sub-microliter dosing mechanisms. I also engineered and constructed the complete system, addressing complex challenges including precision fluid flow control and prevention of micro air bubble formation. The result was a fully automated machine capable of consistently producing flawless encapsulated spheres, advancing the state of the art in liquid encapsulation technology.

Embryo Detection System Development
Developing a proof of concept (POC) mechanism and prototype system to detect embryo presence in eggs during the initial post-laying period, with primary emphasis on optimizing both speed and accuracy metrics.

The methodological approach established a comprehensive solution strategy centered on controlling the interdisciplinary interfaces critical to project success. After identifying fundamental challenges across biophysics, photography, image processing, and machine learning domains, I meticulously mapped how each discipline would contribute to the integrated solution architecture.

Using lighting engineering, optical systems, photographic technology, image processing algorithms, and machine learning frameworks, I orchestrated a cohesive development process ensuring disciplinary alignment toward our unified objectives.

This systematically integrated approach culminated in a high-performance prototype that achieved 100% detection accuracy while delivering unprecedented processing speed and precision, fully satisfying all project requirements and establishing a robust foundation for further development.
