In 2026, EuroShop turns 60, and that anniversary says a lot about how retail really evolves.

EuroShop was founded in 1966, during a radical shift in the industry.
In the early 1960s, self-service formats and discount stores began replacing traditional corner shops.

Retail stopped focusing only on what was being sold and started obsessing over how it was sold. Store layout, fixtures, lighting, and technology became strategic levers, not afterthoughts.

That shift is exactly why EuroShop emerged. Its very first edition in Düsseldorf hosted 333 exhibitors from 11 countries and more than 30,000 visitors, all focused on ex*****on inside the store.

Over the decades, EuroShop showcased open shelving, experiential store concepts, barcode scanning, electronic checkouts, digital pricing, and later software-driven retail systems, often long before they became mainstream.

Today, it’s exciting to see that legacy continue, now shaped by data, AI, and real-time decision-making on the store floor.
Events like this remind me why physical retail remains one of the most complex and fascinating environments to innovate in.
