I’m restarting my DVD collection.

Went into the charity shop today and walked out with a stack of great films for €10.

A great film collection and a great book collection is a film school and art school you own outright. No fees. No algorithm. Just the work, on your shelf, whenever you want it.

I was listening to this in the car and I was thinking it would be beautiful in a film.

When I got home I googled it, because it’s so good it’s surely already in one. Then I saw it was in Bridges of Maddison County. That’s my mother’s favourite film, and it’s one of mine too.

Two years ago today we shot the second day of Outer Heavens. It was around 1am here and we’d been shooting all day. Everyone is running on fumes, but we got it done.

I’ve some pretty incredible news to release about Outer Heavens but I can’t do it just yet. But it’s pretty, pretty freaking good.

Testing the look for my cousin Ryan’s film today. I love making films and I love hanging out with my friends. Great to have a surprise appearance from Sean Kiely, who stole the show.

I’m excited to see how Ryan’s film works out. What we saw today looked great. It’s a big challenge to shoot and direct the film yourself, it’s not for the faint of heart!

Today I finished the pitch deck for my new film.

I’ve been taking running more serious lately. I wanted to do it along side writing my second feature film. (Also my dear wife has been running flat out so she’s inspired me).

Anyway, the running has made the writing really easy. Normally writing is a struggle but because running is so hard it made the writing, which I did in the evening, feel like a privilege.

I’ve finished the film. I’m now putting it together as a treatment so I can share it with others. Then today I also ran 5km in under 25min, which I’ve not done since my kids were born about 6 years ago. It’s not that fast but I do feel like I can do it faster in a few months which I never felt like before.

Over the last few weeks, Outer Heavens has started getting a lot of attention online.

After releasing a few clips and stills from the film, people started trying to figure out how we managed to make a cinematic feature film in 3 days with no money.

So I decided to make a proper video documenting exactly how we did it.

Long takes. One or two takes per scene. Masks. Improvisation. A group of friends. Complete chaos.

The film is now beginning its international festival run, and this is the first video in a series breaking down the full process behind it.
