I was dying to try out these candles by my friend Catherine Monaghan’s new candle company Kildorrery Candles . The packaging and attention to detail is gorgeous and the scents are Devine! I choose ‘Fairytale of a New York’ and ‘A Christmas Walk in the Woods’ (saving that one for December) All the candles are Soy based with beautiful bespoke scents. A bit of colour to brighten a grey day here in Wicklow.

Situated in County Leitrim, 12 Quail Farm produce a beautiful range of natural, handmade Bath and Body Products including sculptural soaps containing Donkey milk.

The existing logo had a lot of personal significance but it was confusing to potential retailers (See the last image).
The company wanted a refresh reflecting their rural origins and connection with nature but which could allow for adaptation as the range expands. The Primary logo also includes a subtle nod to the Estonian origins of the owners in the form of cornflower (The national flower of Estonia).

A secondary logo can be used in conjunction with the main logo to further highlight the donkey milk aspect of the products.

Moodboards are a really important part of the design process for me especially when I'm designing logos or packaging.

This is when all the information gathered from the client starts to take shape in a more visual format. They can include anything from photography to patterns, shapes, font styles, colour palettes or sample finishes and act as the jumping off point for the rest of the design.

Moodboards can save time and money as the client can instantly get a feel for the proposed design direction and give valuable feedback before going to a more advanced design stage 😊

A logo shouldn't just be a random word and/or image. It should have meaning and context and reflect your company values and ideals. The inspiration usually comes from a place close to your heart or the origins of your business but it can take some soul searching to get there.

When the client asked me to design this logo for his publishing company Camaderry Press, he had a strong desire to include the Camaderry mountain in Wicklow in some way. This mountain was local to him and it represented strength and resilience but also has a sense of history and place. In this way it reflects the characters in the books that Camaderry Press publish.

Another design based on the flowers from the previous kindness print.

I like the simplicity of this one.

Now I need to get some sample prints created....any recommendations for local art printers (preferably Dublin/Wicklow) most welcome.

This poster design was inspired by the kindness of both friends and strangers who helped my boys and I out recently when my car broke down far from home.

Sometimes what seems like a small gesture of kindness can mean the world to someone in their hour of need.
