If you are thinking about building your own website you need to ask yourself some questions and answer them honestly.

Building your own website can be one of the most empowering things you can do as a small business owner if you have the right guidance. But, the process can cause a lot of stress and wasted time if you don't know what your doing.

Here are a few things to consider:

What is your skill level? Be honest, is turning on a computer and surfing the web the limits of your technical ability?

Funds available. Do you have zero funds available? If so, building your own simple website might be a good starting point. You can always upgrade in the future.

Time available. Are you working full time and starting a side hustle? You might struggle to find the time to build a fully optimized website if that is the case.

Is your business predominately an offline business? If so, you might just need a small simple website that boosts your professional image. With some time and patience, and the right guidance you might pull this off!

Do you know the difference?

You will save yourself valuable time and money if you understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.

WordPress.com is an all in one platform where when you sign up you will get your domain, hosting, and WordPress type installation for one monthly fee.

This could be a quick and easy way to get a simple website up and running without too much fuss but it has its limitations.

You will not have access to all of the plugins available, even if you sign up for the business plan.

It can be quite costly. On the other hand, WordPress.org is free to install and many plugins that you will need are free too.

In fact, once you purchase your domain and hosting package you could build your entire website for free.

It can take a little longer to learn your way around WordPress.org but if you are willing to spend the time then you have unlimited expansion capabilities.

I’m a dietitian turned website designer. I understand what it’s like to be a small business. The struggles, the stress, the unknowns. THE COST!

The term ‘you need money to make money’ is almost always true. You need clients to make money but you need money to get the clients. Those first few weeks, months and even years can be lonely and isolating.

Your business website does not have to be another source of stress and anxiety. At least it shouldn’t be. If you allow me to work with you in expanding your business onto the online world with a professional, affordable website, I promise, you will be in the driving seat, me as just the navigator.

Each time a new client hires me to design their website I become emotionally, at least, invested in the business. Your success and happiness is what get’s me out of bed in the morning, and working late into the night.
