Culture Night at The Hatch Lab

We're opening our doors on Culture Night for a free evening of music with Gorey based folk duo Ago

Poems Ago blend poetry, mythology and song into rich, atmospheric soundscapes, including a song about Tara Hill. It's a fitting match for a building that spends most of its week full of ideas.

Friday 18th September
8pm – 9.30pm
The Hatch Lab, Innovation House, M11 Business Campus, Wexford Road, Knockmullen, Gorey, Y25 A8H2
Free to attend, refreshments served

This is a Hatch Lab Artist-in-Residence event, part of Terence White's residency with us, funded by Wexford County Councill through the CreativeIrl programme.

Whether you're one of our resident businesses, or you've never been inside the building before, you're very welcome. Bring a friend.

If you are or know and Young Adults LISTEN UP!

As part of our Artist-in-Residence Programme, we are running a free workshop for young innovators and creatives from 9am to 3pm.

The session is called Mapping Your Creative Path.

It's built around the Design Your Life framework developed at Stanford, and it does what the name suggests: participants work individually and in small groups to get clear on their own vision and values, then use innovation and creative thinking techniques to map out alternative routes forward.

It is perfect for young people who have already committed to a course or a job, and it alsosuits people who haven't a clue yet.

Both get something out of it

Sara Carroll of Waggle Learning is facilitating, joined by John O' Connor, CEO of The Hatch Lab, and the Lab's Artist-in-Residence, filmmaker Terence White.

Places are limited.

To book, email [email protected] or phone 053 948 0689.

The Artist-in-Residence Programme is funded by Wexford County Council through the CreativeIrl programme.

If you're a parent, a teacher, or working with young people in north Wexford, pass it on!!

Hiring is one of the biggest decisions a growing business makes. It's also one of the most expensive to get wrong.

On Thursday 27th August, Chris Vos, Manager at INNOVATE Skillsource, will be The Hatch Lab for a morning of 1:1 clinics with businesses across the South East.

Each slot is a focused 30 minutes on your situation.

Consider the following:
β†’ Hiring smarter: getting the right person, not just a person
β†’ Reducing recruitment risk before it costs you
β†’ Accessing specialist talent you can't afford to hire full-time
β†’ Scaling capacity without permanently increasing headcount

This is for owner-managers, founders and team leads who are hiring now, hiring soon, or trying to work out whether they should be hiring at all.

As part of our Artist-in-Residence programme, artist Magda Karol will be creating a mural on one of our windows on Wednesday 26th August.

Hatch Lab residents will be invited to help paint a section of the mural on the day, gloves and aprons provided, no artistic experience required (we promise).

We'll be gathering design ideas from our hatch labbers over the next week, we're very excited about this new stage in the project.

Have a look at Magda's beautiful work here πŸ‘‰ https://www.instagram.com/magdalenakarol/

There's a particular kind of good news that only happens in a shared space.

Innovate have just welcomed QedON as a new customer, and marked the occasion with a delivery of branded cupcakes to the team (Beti Paige Cupcakes)

Both are The Hatch Lab Lab residents. Both are building their businesses here in Gorey.

This collaboration is the part that's hard to put in a brochure, It's not something you can schedule into a calendar, but it's exactly why we do what we do.

Congratulations to both teams

(We're reliably informed the cupcakes were excellent Beti Paige Cupcakes)

Since The Hatch Lab opened, we've filmed a lot of the people who've passed through it.
Founders at the very start of something.
Businesses figuring out what they were.
Interviews sitting on hard drives and scattered across old posts.

So we've gone and done it, we've put it all in one place.
The Hatch Lab is now on YouTube with a brand new channel (link in the first comment)

Make sure that you subscribe and have a look at older videos from the past and keep an eye out for new additions.

Great to host Screen Wexford for their networking morning last month.

We love hosting this group because they bring a completely different energy; writers, producers, directors and crew.

And especially with our Artist in Residence programme now in place, we're beginning to see the impact of putting creative people and enterprise people in the same building.

Conversations happen that wouldn't happen anywhere else.
The screen industry in the South East is growing, and it needs somewhere to gather.
Delighted that somewhere is Gorey.

Throwback to this time last month!
Our annual BBQ at The Hatch Lab, and honestly, we're still thinking about it.

The sun showed up, the activities were brilliant, and the atmosphere was everything we love about this place , people spilling out of the building after hours, chatting over food and drinks.

The best bit about the whole thing is...no, not the burgers (though the burgers were good).
It's the reminder that The Hatch Lab is a community.

To everyone who came along, brought the energy, and stayed for one more chat, a massive thank you. We're so grateful for you.
Can we do it again? Please?

Eoin O Connor Artist has been part of the Hatch Lab through our Artist in Residence programme, and having his work on our walls has had a incredible impact on the feel of the space.

It's a reminder that creativity, art and enterprise belong in the same room, the discipline, the iteration, the willingness to start over on something that isn't working yet.

Our members have taken a lot from watching that up close.

Now Eoin is opening the doors of his own gallery, and he's been kind enough to extend the invitation to the wider Hatch Lab community.

Eoin O Connor Gallery, 4 Esmonde St, Gorey
Saturday 1st August, from 2pm

Call in, meet Eoin, and see the work in person.

If you're in Gorey this Saturday, it's well worth the detour

Last week, one of our own celebrated a big milestone, QedON turned 5!

What began as an idea between Susan Madden and Dylan Smith has grown into an international EdTech company, now working with organisations across Ireland, South Africa, Australia, Ghana and beyond to make learning more engaging, accessible and impactful.

We've had a front row seat to this journey here at The Hatch Lab, and it's been brilliant to watch the QedON team build something with genuine global reach from right here in Gorey

Head over to their page and join us in wishing Susan, Dylan and the whole QedON family a very happy 5th birthday, and here's to the next chapter!
