Small but satisfying job today. Client complained that after having FTTH installed, their Broadband / WiFi remained slow, so we decided to investigate!

1) Tidy up the Rack (Don't have a before.. it was a mess!
2) Replace ISP provided router with an affordable but capable Draytek Router
3) Replace 100Mbps (Yes, 100Mbps!) switch with 1Gbps PoE Switch
4) Replace powerline WiFi extenders with dedicated, cloud managed, unified WiFi6 Access Points

SortIT are currently carrying out a complete physical & logical IT over-haul for a multi-county firm in the West of Ireland. As per OSI, we prefer to start at Layer 1; physical. Here is an MDF at one of the branches, where-by we are in the process of tidying up the physical side of things and removing redundant hardware. The before and after speaks for itself!

More to do, but a lot done!

"Can you take a look at our IT Infrastructure?"

Coming across scenes like this amazes me. This is the problem when you have too many Cowboys rather than one Indian.

Years of different organisations / providers quite simply shoving in their hardware (this is only one rack) and walking away "because it works". Let's not even mention the 3 x 230v extensions shoved in at the bottom, twisted among many UTP CAT5e cables. We won't go into the heat / lack of ventilation aspect but let's just say, some equipment couldn't be held in your hand for too long.

For this new client, what should have been a simple 10-minute fix turned into a 3.5 hour headscratcher! 3 loops were discovered during the consult (Thankfully, most modern Switches have loop protection).

Next step is to begin cleaning this mess (after a long walk on the beach).

Another project which we will carry out from start to finish. Who are we to say "no" when a customer wants to deal with only one, reliable company.

We have just completed Phase 1 of this project; re-wiring a whole building for one customer. Approx. 130 data points connected using 1 x MDF and 1 x IDF. IDF is connected to MDF via Dual Up-Link using LAG.

Phase 2 will consist of Enterprise WiFi Solution, VLAN configuration along with Router configuration to ensure smooth, fast and secure communication between the customers other offices in Dublin, UK and Lithuania.

You will see from the pictures that we only use approved surge protectors to power critical (and expensive) IT equipment. This is then connected directly to a fused spur, meaning no accidental power outages. You would be amazed at the amount of times we carry out work only to find the previous 'experts' have multiple power adapters etc. all in the rack.... interference galore! Final tidying up of wires etc. to be completed once all tested and working!
