PART 1/2
Ever wondered how we get GOLD lettering onto our books? ✨

It starts right here…

Typesetting the title by hand and creating the slugs we use for embossing.

In Part 2, we’ll show how these slugs are used to emboss the title in gold onto the cover. ✨

Gerry Kenny admiring a bespoke collection of books he bound for a private collector many years ago.

Each volume was individually hand bound in half leather with marbled paper, finished with intricate 22ct gold tooling on the spine.

Seeing the full collection together again is a lovely reminder of the craftsmanship, patience and skill that went into traditional bookbinding at Kenny’s Bindery over the years.

And judging by Gerry’s face, I think he’s still fairly pleased with his handiwork!

Ulysses is a very familiar sight in our bindery!

We’ve had two copies in recently for rebinding, with each customer looking for a very specific finish for their book.

Mina is our bookbinder extraordinaire and our specialist when it comes to book repairs and rebinding.

Have an old or treasured book in need of some TLC? Mina’s your woman!

Send us a few photos, or drop into our workshop with the book, and we’d be delighted to advise on the best way to rebind it and provide a quote

It’s always great to see where the projects that come through our bindery end up.

A while back, Richard Naughton came to us with a very different kind of binding project.

Troy took on the tricky job of binding the intricate prototype copy of Those Folks At The Top for Galway-based company Table Topple.

The book is interactive where the reader makes choices that shape the story, all set within the same world Richard is developing for his game, Above Quarry Crater.

So it was brilliant to recently see Richard bringing his idea to Gamescom 2026 - the biggest events in the gaming industry.

We’re delighted Kenny’s Bindery got to play a small part in the early stages.

Best of luck to Richard and the Table Topple team with everything ahead!

A little behind-the-scenes look at our Claddagh Pocket Notebooks getting embossed.

Each notebook is gold embossed by hand here in the bindery, so every notebook gets its own little finishing touch.
Featuring the traditional Claddagh symbol of love, loyalty & friendship, they make a lovely Galway gift or keepsake.

New Colours will be up on the site soon....
