Tool Theft – Simple Steps That Make a Real Difference 🛠️
We’re sharing these excellent tips from An Garda Síochána Laois/Offaly to help protect your equipment.
We continue to see incidents of tools being stolen from vans, sheds, and work sites. For many, this isn’t just an inconvenience — it’s a direct impact on your livelihood.
The good news is that a few simple steps can significantly reduce your risk:
🔹 Think about where you park: Well-lit, busy areas are best. At home, position your van where it’s visible and overlooked.
🔹 Upgrade your vehicle security: Standard locks are often not enough. Consider additional deadlocks or internal locking systems.
🔹 Remove tools overnight: If you can, bring tools inside. A full van is an attractive target.
🔹 Mark and record your property: Property marking initiatives supported by the Public Participation Network (PPN) are available locally.

📱 Using the Garda Property App: Record serial numbers and take photos.
📦 Securing your storage: Ensure sheds and garages have strong locks and hinges.
💡 Lighting and CCTV: Motion sensors and basic cameras are strong deterrents.
No single measure will stop theft on its own, but layered security makes you a much harder target.
