Most hotels know how many bookings they took last month. Fewer know how many of those people actually showed up.

That gap is quiet. Nothing looks wrong on the report until the room sits empty on the night.

And the reason is usually simple. Someone booking through an OTA is holding five properties at once and hasn't really picked any of them yet. Someone booking on your own site already has.

Commission rates never show you that part. You pay for the booking either way. You only get paid for the ones that turn into a stay.
