🎉 1,000 WORM EGG COUNTS! 🐴🪱
We’re delighted to celebrate a fantastic milestone… We’ve now carried out our 1,000th worm egg count since launching our in-house worm egg counting service service in March 2025! 🎉
As a practice, we’re passionate about targeted, evidence-based worming. Reaching 1,000 tests is a brilliant reminder of what we can achieve by working together with our clients to protect our horses and safeguard the future of effective worm control.
A huge thank you to every client who has been part of this journey! By testing rather than automatically reaching for the wormer, you’re helping us to:
🪱 Reduce the risk of wormer resistance - an increasing threat to the long-term effectiveness of worming treatments.
💷 Avoid unnecessary costs - why administer a wormer when it isn’t needed?
❤️ Protect horse health - identifying worm burdens that may require treatment helps reduce the risk of serious, potentially life-threatening disease.
🌱 Reduce environmental impact - avoiding unnecessary treatments helps limit the potential environmental effects associated with wormer use.
And the results so far are really encouraging! 🙌
Of our first 1,000 worm egg counts, only 303 were above the threshold for worming. The remaining results were negative or below the treatment threshold of 250 eggs per gram (epg).
That means there have been nearly 700 occasions when worming was not indicated by the test result - avoiding treatments that might otherwise have been given routinely.
It’s a fantastic example of how testing, interpreting results and treating appropriately can make a real difference to horse health, help preserve the effectiveness of our wormers and support more responsible parasite control.
So, here’s to the next 1,000! 🥂🐴
Thank you for helping us champion responsible worming and for playing your part in protecting your horses, preserving the effectiveness of our treatments and caring for our environment. 💚
