Cyber safety shouldn’t stop at the workplace, it belongs in every community. 🔐

As part of our new volunteering initiative, our Cyber Safety Team trained Asiera employees to deliver cyber safety workshops through local community libraries, in collaboration with the Skills for Life programme.

Over the past six weeks, free workshops have been delivered in libraries in Malahide, Gorey, Kildare Town, Athy, Raheny, Trim, Leixlip, Donaghmede, Finglas, Kilcormac, Tullamore, Enniscorthy, and Ashbourne.

More than 100 people have already attended these workshops, showing the strong community interest in accessible, practical cyber safety education. 👏

This is a great example of how industry can give back, sharing knowledge, building confidence and helping people stay safer online.

Fantastic to welcome Age Friendly Ireland to MTU today as they continue visiting shortlisted projects for the National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards. 🏆

It was a pleasure to meet the judges Madeleine, Pat Dowling and Darragh from Age Friendly, to share the journey of the Cyber Safety Project, highlighting the work we have been doing over the past few years to help older adults feel empowered, confident, and resilient against cyber threats.

A huge thank you to Liz, Eleanor and Billy for joining us today and representing the project so brilliantly. They have been involved from the very beginning, taking part in our initial research to identify the cyber safety needs and learning preferences of older adults, featuring alongside us on RTÉ's 10 Things to Know About, and helping us refine our cyber safety card game, which we had the opportunity to play with the judges today.

The visit also gave us the chance to showcase some of the practical advice we share through the project, and speak about the different scams that we all come into contact with.

It was a fantastic day, and we are grateful for the opportunity to showcase the impact of the Cyber Safety Project and the incredible people who have helped shape it.

This recognition means a great deal to us because it highlights something we see every day: clear, accessible information empowers people to stay safe, connected, and confident online.

For many older adults in Ireland, navigating the digital world can feel overwhelming. Access to trusted, easy-to-understand guidance isn't just helpful, it's essential for protecting financial security, maintaining social connections, and accessing everyday services.

That's exactly why we created Cyber Safety.

Our mission is to make cybersecurity accessible for everyone, particularly older adults who are increasingly embracing technology. Through practical resources, guidance, and ongoing support, we are helping people build the confidence to recognise online scams, protect their personal information, and use the internet safely.

Being shortlisted is a testament to the importance of making cyber safety information inclusive and accessible. We are incredibly proud to be recognised alongside organisations making a real difference to the lives of older people across Ireland. 🙌

Last week, Cyber Safety workshops were delivered in community libraries in partnership with the Libraries Skills for Life Programme. These workshops were delivered by Asiera employees as part of their staff volunteering initiative.

Following training from the Cyber Safety team, Asiera volunteers delivered workshops in:

📍 Ashbourne Library, Co. Meath

📍 Enniscorthy Library, Co. Wexford

📍 Leixlip Library, Co. Kildare

📍 Trim library, Co. Meath

✅ Our feedback so far shows that 100% of participants said they would recommend the workshop to others.

This partnership has enabled Cyber Safety to extend its reach into communities across Meath, Wexford, Kildare and Dublin, building on previous workshops delivered in Cork, Kerry and Donegal. By working together, we are helping more people access trusted, practical advice to stay safe online and build confidence against evolving cyber threats.

🛡️ Cyber Safety Workshops for Older Adults in Dublin Libraries 🛡️

Michelle O'Keeffe (PhD) and Anne Ryan-Duffy recently travelled to Dublin to deliver two Cyber Safety workshops for older adults in Ballyogan and Dundrum Libraries.

The level of engagement and the variety of questions throughout both sessions really highlighted the growing need for cyber safety advice to be shared within communities. These workshops are designed to be accessible and welcoming, requiring no prior technical knowledge, with information delivered in clear and simple language.

At the end of each session, participants received an information booklet created by our team in collaboration with older adults, allowing them to revisit the key advice and guidance at home.

🔹 What to do if you’ve been hacked
🔹 Safe online shopping
🔹 Artificial Intelligence (AI)

We recently piloted our Cyber Safety Card Game at Munster Technological University as part of the 21st Cork Lifelong Learning Festival, and what a fantastic experience it was!

The workshop sparked lively conversations around staying safe online, from recognising scams to protecting privacy and managing passwords. Participants shared real experiences, asked thoughtful questions, and learned from one another in a fun, social, and even
a little competitive environment. The energy in the room was incredible, full of curiosity, laughter, and openness. 💡

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and made the session so memorable. As this game was co-designed with older adults, for older adults, it was fantastic to receive such positive feedback. It’s incredibly encouraging to see it building confidence and
raising awareness around cyber safety in such an engaging and accessible way.

If you know someone who could benefit from a little extra support with staying safe online, we would love to have them come to one of our free cyber safety talks. We will be holding these talks from the 12th-15th of May in libraries across County Cork in collaboration

Jacob Camilleri from the Cyber Safety team presented his poster, “Your Voice is Lost": How Migrant Community Workers Navigate Digital Safety Challenges in Ireland, at CHI in Barcelona 📍

The ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems is the leading international conference on Human-Computer Interaction, bringing together global research on how technology can be designed to better serve people.

Across the conference, Jacob engaged with research focused on making digital spaces safer and more inclusive. Key themes included scam awareness and prevention, responsible AI use, dark patterns, responsible online gambling, and protecting vulnerable and marginalised groups.

He also gained insights into inclusive cybersecurity research methods, including work on:

-tackling health misinformation on TikTok

-understanding recovery and resilience after cybercrime

-fraud prevention for older adults using simulation-based approaches

-improving accessibility in digital wallets

Overall, CHI highlighted how human-centred design and co-design can play a powerful role in building safer and more inclusive digital environments 💡

Michelle from our team recently delivered an in-person Cyber Safety workshop in Ennis, Co. Clare for adults with intellectual disabilities. On the same day, she also facilitated an online session with participants from centres across the country.

Our Cyber Safety workshops are designed to support a wide range of groups, including older adults, adults with intellectual disabilities, schools, parents and teachers, migrants, and supporters of survivors of domestic violence. Each workshop is tailored to the specific needs and topics most relevant to your group. 💡
