Interesting information on getting broadband to rural areas. Have a listen. The too long didn't listen version is this: Use Fixed Broadband instead of Fibre for Rural Areas.

What is Fixed Broadband? Attach an antenna to the side of your house and access broadband wirelessly from a nearby hub.

Why is this the way to go: Ireland is pretty unique in terms of how many one-off rural houses we have in the country (blame the Brits and their landlord ways!). To connect every single house could take another decade or more. Fixed Wireless could be rolled out within months with similar speeds.

Can I get Fixed Wireless to my home now? YES - there are several providers such as Imagine.ie already providing this service, including in the Charlestown region.

In case you were on the fence about deleting your Facebook or not, this might tip you over the edge!

At the very least:
1) if you are connected into Facebook via the likes of Spotify remove those links immediately!

2) Never use Facebook on your phone - delete the app - only access it through the Firefox browser on your laptop/PC with the Facebook container extension installed!

3) Don't use Messenger to chat - only use Whatsapp, Signal or Telegram.

Did you know Facebook tracks your activity on other websites once you log into it on your browser?

Consider switching to the Firefox browser and installing the Facebook Container Extension to prevent Facebook from snooping on your every move.

The Facebook container extension helps you control more of your web activity from Facebook by isolating your identity into a separate container. This makes it harder for Facebook to track your activity on other websites via third-party cookies.

Do you use the Facebook Messenger app to chat with friends? Maybe consider switching to a more secure app such as Telegram. Why? Because Facebook are listening.

Recent reports also suggest that Facebook are actively trying to weaken WhatsApp security and privacy (as Facebook now own WhatsApp). So maybe consider switching to more secure messaging platforms, such as 'Signal' for SMS texts and 'Telegram' for internet-based conversations.

Facebook revealed this week that it's scanning users' Messenger conversations - including text chats, pictures, and links - in an effort to ensure that people play by the rules.

Following on from our earlier privacy post here is another excellent tip to increase privacy on your home network:

Did you know your Internet service provider (Eir, Vodafone, Sky etc) can see every single site that you visit? This enables them to sell data about your Internet activity or use it to target you with ads without your knowledge.

Changing you default DNS resolver can prevent this from happening, just follow the instructions on https://1.1.1.1/

If you are comfortable doing so I would advise making the change on your router itself as this will then apply the change to all your devices.
